Four-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams has become the first woman to win two Grand Slams in the same season, winning the US Opens women’s final over No. 2 seed Marin Cilic in a four-set tiebreaker on Saturday.
The 25-year-old Williams is ranked No. 8 in the world, while Cilic is No. 4.
Williams and Cilic will face each other for the first time at the tournament in 2018.
Williams has never won a Grand Slam, but she has won two in a row.
She beat former No. 1 seed Serena by a 6-3, 6-2 scoreline in 2014 and 2013.
She also defeated her fellow American in the first round of the 2017 Australian Open.
Cilic was seeded No. 3 after losing to No. 10 seed Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in 2017.
He lost in the third round to compatriot Tomas Berdych in the semifinals.
Cilic defeated Cilic 3-0 in the fourth round.
Williams was seeded first and Cervi second after losing in the second round to No, 11 seed Tomas Berdys.
She then lost to Berdyz in the final to finish the season fourth.
She is now No. 11 in the rankings and the top seed.
Cervi was the runner-up at the Australian and European Opens, losing in two sets to No., 11 seed Rafael Nadal.
She was ranked No, 10 in the standings and No. 15 overall.
Williams is also ranked No: 13 in the women’s rankings.
