The American women’s team will be led by a former world champion who was also the captain of the 1980 U.S. team that won gold in Beijing.
The women’s national team also includes the world’s best soccer player, Alex Morgan, who was a standout on the U.N. Women’s World Cup team.
Morgan played on the squad that won silver in 2002 and bronze in 2010.3.
USA coach Jill Ellis will lead the squad to the final and will be assisted by the nation’s best goalie, Hope Solo, who is expected to start for the USA in her home country.
Solo has won the tournament’s gold medal with the United States at the 2012 Summer Games in Beijing and has been a standout for the U:WNT.
